More than £180 has been raised by residents of the award-winning The New Deanery and St Mary’s Court care homes in Braintree, and their families, at a fun quiz night.  The event, which was attended by over 40 people, was organised by the homes’ resident Activities Manager Jo Whitehouse and her team, and held during national Dementia Awareness Week. The quiz, held in the New Deanery’s banqueting suite, was won by Quiz Team Aguilera!

Jo said:

“We were thrilled to raise such a good amount from this event, which included a raffle, as well as a cake sale earlier in the week. Everyone had a great time, so much so that people are already asking when we are going to do it again!

“I particularly would like to mention our matron Joan Sirett who organised the Quiz & baked all the cakes and donated the gifts.”  The money raised will be given to the Essex Dementia Care charity, which helps people with dementia to live full and active lives.

Essex Dementia Care CEO Debbie Davis said: “We would like to thank the staff, residents and their families for making this event such a success. Every penny counts and the money raised will enable us to help people to live well with dementia.”

The New Deanery care home provides residential care whilst the neighbouring St Mary’s Court care home specialises in providing the highest quality dementia, specialist and nursing care. Both are operated by Sonnet Care Homes.
