For some people that might be spending time in the garden, painting, or crafts and organised activities such as flower arranging and entertainment.
When it comes to daily life at The New Deanery care home in Bocking there is always plenty to do and we pride ourselves on our full calendar of activities and events throughout the year.
Our activities team, led by national and regional award finalist Head of Activities Jo Whitehouse, provides something for our residents to do seven days a week, which is included in our all-inclusive packages.
As well as day-to-day activities we have a full calendar of events for the year to bring the community, residents and their friends and family together, including BBQs, visits from singers and dancers, fetes, and lots more.

The New Deanery is lucky to have its own mini bus which is used for organised trips for residents most days. Visits include; trips to Braintree, the seaside, Tiptree Jam Factory, RAF Duxford, garden centres, evenings at the races and many more. We listen to our residents and we ask where they would like to go, and we then plan trips based on their preferences.
Our residents, their families and friends love our activities and we’re sure you will too!
Gwen Parker, a relative of a resident at The New Deanery, attended one of our live music events, she said: “It’s great when there is entertainment like this, it’s such fun to listen to live music and have a dance. The team does such a great job to ensure there’s lots for the residents to do.”
“The weekly plan of activities provided on notice boards reflected the actual activities provided to people. One relative told us, “One of the beauties of this home is the quality of the activities provided. My [relative] loves them because at home they were lonely but here they have lots of stimulation and opportunities to socialise with others.”
“People had a personalised plan. The service was flexible and supported people to lead individualised lives. There were many opportunities to socialise and participate in activities.” CQC report August 2016
So whether you like being sociable and taking part in group activities, watching a film in our cinema room, enjoying home-baked cakes with friends and family in the bistro or relaxing in your own room with a good book or TV programme, there is something for everyone.
